About the Snake Arcade Game
The arcade version of snake is the one that started the format: a walled screen, one snake, one pellet, and a speed that climbs whether you are ready for it or not. There are no power-ups, no opponents and no shop - the only variable in the whole game is you.
That constraint is why it survived being a 1970s cabinet feature and a 1998 Nokia phone. Reading the board ahead is a skill that never gets old, and the game never lets you stop needing it. Every pellet makes the next decision harder than the one before it, so a good run ends on a board you built yourself.
How to Play
- Steer with the arrow keys. The snake cannot reverse into itself, so pressing the opposite direction does nothing.
- Eat the pellet. The snake grows by one segment and the speed steps up.
- Keep to the outer edge early. Riding a wall gives you the whole interior as open space while you are still short.
- Leave yourself a corridor. As the board fills, decide which open lane you will use to escape, and never close it.
- Speed is not the boss. The game dies to a dead pocket, not to fast movement - so do not chase pellets you cannot return from.

Why This Version Feels Different
The browser build keeps the original timing: constant forward motion, one input per turn, and no forgiveness. What it adds is a score that persists in the tab, so a bad run does not cost you the record you were chasing.
The Original Snake Arcade Game
One screen, one snake, one pellet, and a speed that climbs on its own. The arcade cabinet version set the rules every snake game since has kept - no power-ups, no opponents, nothing to unlock. That is why "original" versions of it are still played: the format has no technology requirement to fall behind.
Snake Game 1, 2 and the Versions That Followed
The sequenced versions all change the same two dials - board size and speed curve. Snake Game 1 is the plain single screen; Snake Game 2 adds obstacles and tighter arenas. Pick 1 if you are learning the spiral habit, 2 once your hands already know not to close your own exit.
Tips
Spiral inward
Take the outer ring first, then work toward the centre in a tightening loop. It keeps every segment behind you on a path you already know is clear.
Count your tail
Once the snake is a third of the screen long, the danger is not the wall - it is the middle of your own body. Mentally mark where you will need to turn.
Do not eat the nearest pellet
The closest pellet is often the one that seals your exit. Take the one that keeps a lane open.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a snake arcade game?
The single-screen original: one snake eats pellets, grows on every pellet, and the run ends when it hits a wall or its own tail.
Can I play the snake arcade game online for free?
Yes, at Gamesead. It loads in your browser with no download, no install and no account.
Does the speed increase?
It climbs on a fixed step as your score rises, so the same route you cleared at length 10 needs a new timing at length 40.
What is the highest snake arcade score possible?
The board caps itself - once the snake fills the screen there is nowhere left to move, so a perfect run is a theoretical number nobody has posted.
Does it work on Chromebook and phones?
Both. Steering is one input, and touch works exactly like the keyboard.
